Could sailing’s next household names be racing on Pittwater next week?
The 32nd HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championship gets underway at RPAYC on Wednesday 11 November, bringing together ten talented youth match racing teams from around the world.
First held in 1992, this prestigious event has helped launch the careers of some of sailing’s biggest names, including two-time winner James Spithill.
RPAYC has claimed the trophy eight times and has three skippers competing this year: Daniel Kemp, Louis Tilly and Ash Napper.
The championship is proudly supported by longstanding sponsor Harken Australia.

Get Involved in the HARKEN Championship!
You don’t have to be competing to be part of the excitement! There are three great opportunities for RPAYC members to get involved in this year’s HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championship.
Meet the Teams – Wednesday 11 November
Following RPAYC Wednesday afternoon yacht racing, we’ll introduce the competing teams as part of the regular Wednesday racing series prize-giving. Everyone is welcome to come along for this short, informal and enjoyable opportunity to meet some of the world’s future sailing stars and learn a little bit about the world of match racing.
Watch the Finals on the Water – Sunday 15 November
Want a front-row seat for the action? We’re offering members the opportunity to watch the semi-finals and finals from a spectator boat on Sunday. The day out on the water will include an incredible viewing platform and commentary on the day’s racing.
Places are limited, so if you’re interested, please contact Reception and ask to have your name membership number added to the HARKEN Spectator Boat List ($25).
Celebrate the Champions – Sunday 15 November
Join us at the Club after racing on Sunday for the HARKEN Championship prize-giving, where we’ll celebrate the winners and recognise the achievements of all the competing teams. All RPAYC members are warmly invited to come along to your club, congratulate the sailors and enjoy the conclusion of five days of outstanding competition.
Come along, support our RPAYC teams and enjoy some of the best youth match racing in the world!
