RPAYC Tops WASZP Nationals
Sailors representing the club have taken 1st and 2nd at the Australian WASZP National Championships. The event was hosted by the Whitsunday Sailing Club at Airlie Beach over the period 8-11 April and featured ideal conditions in amazing surroundings. With competitors including the state champions from Queensland, NSW, Victoria and WA, the top of the fleet was incredibly strong.
Louis Tilly successfully defended his National title, winning 6 of the 12 races and stepping away from the rest of the fleet on days 2 and 3. Will Troop took second in a close tussle with Conall Green from Royal Geelong. 4th went to Nick Dunne from the Townsville Sailing Club.
The female fleet featured three international competitors and was taken out by Bridget Conrad (Gosford) from Dahlia Fyfe (NZ) and Harriet George (UK). RPAYC was also represented by Jervis Tilly (6th and first SuperMaster), Ollie Ross (9th) and Charlie Snell (13th). In accepting the trophy, Louis recognised the Club’s support, as well as thanking various volunteers and his fellow competitors. The WASZPs now take a break from domestic competition before several sailors plan to head to Foiling Week (Lake Garda) and the Europeans (Mar Manor, Spain).
The results from the Sailors representing RPAYC at the National Champs were:
- 1st – Louis Tilly – Boogie Wonderland
- 2nd – Will Troop – Thunderstruck
- 6th – Jervis Tilly – Superseded
- 9th – Ollie Ross – Scrat
- 13th – Charlie Snell – irukandji
