Congratulations to our RPAYC Youth Development Team of Daniel Kemp (skipper), Belle Holdsworth, Hayley Fisher, Charlie Verity, and Lachlan Wallace, who have gained selection to be the Australian Representative Team at this year’s World Sailing Youth Match Racing World Championships.
This year’s world championship will be held from 21-27 July in Gdynia, Poland, and will be raced on RS21 vessels. It is a ‘Grade W’ event, the highest grade given in match racing.
Kemp’s entry for Australia marks the first time that RPAYC will be represented at the event since Will Dargaville, Josh Dawson, Sarah Parker, and James Farquarson won the event in 2016.
It follows news received at the beginning of May that Kemp had again been selected to represent RPAYC at the Governor’s Cup in California, which is scheduled to be held 29 July – 3 August, meaning that our team will travel from Sydney to Poland, and then direct to California with only a single day between events.
Of the selection, Kemp noted:
“It is an absolute honour to be selected to represent Australia, and to have received this entry for RPAYC. To attend the world championship has been the key goal for our team in its campaigning over the past 2 years, so we are now very motivated to make the most of it.
Our thanks as always to RPAYC, our YD coach Rob Brewer, and the members for all their support and enthusiasm as we embark on this two event tour at the end of July.”
We wish Dan, Belle, Hayley, Lachie, and Charlie all the best for this outstanding event and look forward to hearing about their adventures in the coming months.
