RPAYC Opening Day 2026
The Commodore invites you to celebrate the start of the new sailing season on 5 September 2026.
Spring is on its way and with it comes the highly anticipated Opening Day of the 2026-27 sailing season at Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
The club is excited to announce a full day of fun-filled activities at the club, including a sail past, first race, prizes and so much more.
Our special opening day program has something for everyone. We welcome families and children of all ages to come enjoy the fun and festivities.
The day will kick off with the Commodores’ welcome, followed by the cannon firing and the breaking of the flag.
Then head out onto the water for the boat parade, “Three cheers for the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club” and the first race of the season, the Pittwater Dash. Boat entrants in the race go into the draw to win a Halyards Dining House voucher.
Don’t forget there will be a prize for Best Dressed Boat and its Crew.
Celebrations continue on-shore with complimentary bubbles to toast the formal Opening Ceremony at 11:30.
Kids will love the Kids Zone with face painting and a balloon.
Schedule of Events:
- 8:00 – Halyards Bistro open for breakfast
- 11:30 – Commodores welcome, Club Toast, Firing of the Cannon and Breaking of the Flag
- 12:15 – Parade of Boats Salute (Sail & Motor)
- 1:15 pm Pittwater Dash – Yachts | 1:20 pm – Centreboard OTB
Shore-based events
- Halyards Bistro open for lunch
- 2:00 – 5:00 pm – Kids face painting and balloon artist
- 2:00 – 6:00 pm – Live DJ
- 4:00 pm – Post-race complementary Club BBQ
- Pittwater Dash Prizegiving & Awards
- Halyards Bar open until 8:00 pm
All of this activity is sure to raise an appetite, and with our mouth-watering Post Race Club BBQ available from 4:00 pm, we’ve got you covered!
Opening Day promises to be a day of great family fun, where we can come together as a sailing community and enjoy an unforgettable experience.
Notice to Yacht Owners:
There will also be opportunities for Centreboard sailors to experience more of the broader Club and take part in the traditional Sail Past aboard members’ yachts.
