Interclub Challenge – Round 3 Sydney Harbour Action at RSYS

Hosted by RSYS | Sunday, June 23

The penultimate round of the Interclub Challenge was held on Sydney Harbour last Sunday, with the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron playing host under near-perfect winter conditions. A steady 5–8 knot westerly breeze offered the most consistent sailing we’ve seen so far this season, and the crews were quick to make the most of it.

Both RPAYC teams put in commendable performances against tough competition from the seasoned squads of RSYS and NCYC. Will, Jack, Lachie, Alana, and Victoria sailed with sharp teamwork, boat speed, and bold tactical calls—earning them a well-deserved third place overall. Their result was particularly impressive considering the experience gap between them and the older teams from the other clubs.

The second RPAYC team—Ewan, Lily, Josh, Hamish, and Saxon—also showed great promise in their first outing of the season. With more time on the water ahead, they’re well-positioned to build on this performance.

The final round takes place this Sunday at CYCA, and we wish our teams the best of luck as they wrap up the series. Following that, sailors will have a short window to transition into training with asymmetrical spinnakers ahead of the Mick Hole Regatta in mid-July.

A big thank you to RSYS parent Andrew Lee for capturing the action with some fantastic photos!
