Pittwater to come alive with sails this weekend with race 1 of the Lion Island Series.
The Lion Island May Series has always been a popular yacht series for Pittwater, in 2021 entries are at record heights with 70 Series competitors entered and an additional 24 Beneteau’s competing in their annual Beneteau Cup Regatta.

Sailing Instructions
The RPAYC General Notice of Race and Sailing Instructions, are published in the 2020-2021 RPAYC Sailing Handbook, with specific Sailing Instructions for the Lion Island Series, under Appendix I (or as amended). Please Note: The Lion Island Series ‘2 Handed Division’, may also be known as ‘Division 5’.
Crew Lists

Course Sheet
Courses will be chosen from the RPAYC BLUE Course Sheet. Laminated copies are available from Club Reception or available online. The approximate Starting Area, plus the Courses for each Division, may be announced on VHF CH77 by the Race Committee, prior to the Start. The chosen courses may also be displayed by a numeral course board, on the Committee Vessel.
For Boats not familiar with RPAYC Race Management practises, attention is drawn to ‘Course 0’, on the BLUE Course Sheet.
Backstay Flag
In order to assist Race Management, boats are reminded to display their Divisional coloured backstay flag (along with Club Racing Pennant or Club Burgee). These are available from Club Reception.
Divisional Coloured Backstay Flags are as follows;
Div 1 BLUE,
Div 2 GREEN,
Div 3 PINK,
Div 4 (Not required for Beneteau Cup Non Spinnaker boats)
Div 5 / 2Handed WHITE.
Please Note: 11 Metre boats and 5.5 Metre boats have been allocated to Division 2 – GREEN Backstay Flag.

Supplementary Sailing Instructions will be published on Friday 7th May.
A Welcome and Race Briefing will be conducted in the RPAYC Clubhouse, at 1000hrs on Saturday 8th May.
