The Season Ahead
The Yacht Racing Committee have been very busy over the year planning for the 2021-2022 racing season.
We hope you enjoy some of the new initiatives introduced to the traditional sailing program along with a few tweaks that we hope keep the racing fresh and interesting.
Spring Lion Island Series
By popular demand we have introduced a new series of 3 races in September 2021 using the hugely well supported format of the Lion Island Series held each May. Saturday 11th September to Saturday 25th September 2021.
Thursday Twilight Series
The Thursday Twilight Series will be split into 3 series for the 21-22 Season. The Spring Twilight Series will kick off in October 2021 with a short series of 5 stern chaser (Pursuit Races).
The Summer Twilight Series will follow with 10 races throughout the longest days of summer in the traditional divisional starts.
The Twilights round out with the Autumn Twilight Series forms the final 5 races and we return to the stern chaser starts to once again use the best of the shorter evenings.
Estuary / Broken Bay Inter-Club Series
We have lined up a few of the Estuary Series with the Broken Bay Inter-Club Series so that we can join the other Pittwater Clubs for this very popular Series of 4 races. We will be joining the fleets of Royal Motor Yacht Club, Gosford Sailing Club and Hawkesbury River Yacht Club.
Short Offshore Series
The SOPs series will have 9 races and will once again be a mixture of courses out and back and courses that add in some reaching continuing on from the very popular changes from last year.
Pittwater Inshore Series
This very popular series will once again see 9 races across the season using the traditionally challenging courses of Pittwater.
Sprint Racing (windward / leeward) Series
We have scheduled 6 Sprint days throughout the year, 4 throughout summer and 2 in the winter (Mick Hole Regatta – 2 consecutive Saturdays in July) along with the addition of the Pittwater Regatta makes for regular racing for those that enjoy short course multiple race days.
The Sprint racing will be open to all yachts along with the One Design & Sports Boat classes.
Alongside these Saturdays there will also be an alternative passage race for those that the short course race format is not for them or their crew.
Wednesday Non-Spinnaker Series
Wednesday afternoon racing will continue as normal with a small tweak to the series; Wednesdays will be split into 5 series of no more than 10 races.
Spring Series, Early Summer Series, Late Summer Series, Autumn Series and Winter Waterford Series.
When you add in a couple of non-point score races it brings the total to 50 for the season!
Bluewater Pointscore and NEW Coastal Series
The BWPS will again include the iconic east coast races including the Noakes Gold Coast Race, Rolex Sydney to Hobart Race and Pittwater to Coffs Harbour Race along with the challenge of the Sydney to Auckland Race. The series also includes a Newcastle Return and Cabbage Tree Race.
The new Coastal Pointscore Series is designed to give the flourishing SOPs fleet and our developing two-handed sailors a series to develop their offshore skills. The races all scheduled from January to April include Bird Island Return, Pittwater to Newcastle, Newcastle to Pittwater, Sydney Return and Port Hacking Return. We look forward to seeing how this develops and hope that some of our experienced offshore sailors are on hand to support those that are newer to this discipline.
