RPAYC welcomed the fleet of 14 VxOne Class boats and their teams to Pittwater for the 2024 NSW Titles. These family-friendly off-the-beach boats can be sailed 2-3-handed and are fantastic for youth and adults or both to sail competitively.
The NSW Title consists of 7 races. Day 1 saw a fickitty northeasterly on Pittwater, the Race Committed ‘AP’ race 1 whilst suitable winds came in before setting the fleet off, who soon all returned to the startline with the announcement of a “General Recall”, the fleet just edging to get going. The Race Committee led by Stephen Merrignton soon announced the “Black Flag” was in use and race 1 was off with a clear start.
The light winds on Pittwater saw the fleet slowly spread by lap 2 on the windward/leeward course.
A re-set of the course was required after race 1 with an e-n-e and increased breeze that saw the fleet planning whilst they zig-zagged across Pittwater.
After 4 races, Ben Franklin takes the honour of 4 bullets dominating Day 1. Second and third places are within 3 points of each other with RPAYCs Youth Development Coach Rob Brewer in second place, followed by Peter Conde.
Special mention to the only boat sailing 2-handed, Competitive Dads from RPAYC with Alex Robbins and Cameron Miles onboard and sitting in 6th place (possibly the ex ‘Optimist’ parent flare shining through).
