RPAYC joins the International Council of Yacht Clubs (ICOYC)
I’m delighted to share that the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club has been accepted into the International Council of Yacht Clubs (ICOYC) a global community of leading clubs that collaborate to raise standards, share ideas, and grow our sport.
What this means for Alfred’s and our members
- ICOYC is currently made up of 53 member clubs across 24 nations, all sharing a similar commitment to yachting activity, excellent club services, and fostering high standards.
- By joining ICOYC, we will have access to best practices in areas such as governance, membership growth, regatta delivery, coaching pathways, and environmental responsibility.
- We will be able to participate in ICOYC’s World Forums, Regional Conferences, and annual cruises — opportunities that will let us engage with peer clubs around the world, exchange insights, and bring back ideas to benefit our members here.
- Joining ICOYC strengthens our club’s reputation and opens doors for reciprocal visiting with other clubs, event invitations, and international collaboration. This helps us expand our sailing experiences and connections beyond our local waters.
Some of the member clubs you’ll recognise.
Here are a few of the well-known ICOYC member clubs, to give a sense of the calibre of our peers:
- Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club, Western Australia
- Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron, NSW, Australia
- Royal Perth Yacht Club, Western Australia, Australia
- Royal New Zealand Yacht Squadron, NZ
- San Francisco Yacht Club, USA
- Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club, Hong Kong
- Royal Canadian Yacht Club, Toronto, Canada
- Yacht Club Italiano, Genova, Italy
These clubs represent a wide geographical spread and many different traditions, yet they are united through ICOYC in seeking continuous improvement and broader connection.
Acknowledgements
A big thank you to the Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron for nominating us, and to the Royal Freshwater Bay Yacht Club for seconding our application. We greatly appreciate your support.
Looking Ahead
As new members within ICOYC, we aim to learn, collaborate, and bring value back to RPAYC for all members. We’ll soon share ways you can be involved — whether it’s attending international events, chats with peer clubs, or contributing to how we do things here.
