A challenging weekend of radio sailing at the NSW DF65 Championships wrapped up with racing called off on Sunday due to strong onshore winds and heavy rain. With six races completed across three fleets on Saturday, the overnight scores became final—securing a fantastic set of results for the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
According to Phil Burgess, who finished 18th overall, the course was particularly demanding:
“It’s a very technical course, with the current eddying right in the middle of the track. You’ve really got to study the water for reverse flows. If you miss it, you’re going backwards while everyone else sails past you.”
RPAYC’s Warwick Crossman rose to the challenge with a standout 2nd place overall, showing cool consistency in a fleet full of talent. He was joined by several strong RPAYC performances:
Position | Skipper | Sail # | Score |
2 | Warwick Crossman | 03 | 23.0 |
5 | Gareth Pike | 05 | 31.0 |
6 | Rick Murray | 34.0 | |
9 | Chris Ting | 86 | 36.0 |
14 | Ron Jacobs | 47 | 53.0 |
15 | Colin Bruce Cooley | 136 | 53.0 |
18 | Phil Burgess | 14 | 70.0 |
20 | Greig Ebeling | 577 | 74.0 |
24 | Mick Green | 654 | 88.0 |
26 | John Groves | 734 | 95.0 |
This impressive spread of results highlights the strength and depth of the Alfred’s DF65 fleet across all divisions.
Looking ahead, RPAYC would be proud to host this event next year, offering Pittwater as a spectacular and equally technical venue for high-level DF65 competition.
Congratulations to the entire RPAYC team for an excellent set of results across a strong 41-boat fleet at the New South Wales DF65 Championships!
