Welcome to our new Members.
After a disrupted year due to COVID lockdowns, the club held its first New Members Cocktail Party for 2022 last Friday evening upstairs in the Edinburgh Room. Over 100 people, including our regular Friday night Happy Hour patrons enjoyed drinks and canapés while being entertained by the delightful talents and voice of Natasha Kavanagh at the grand piano.
Typically, the club would host New Member evenings two to three times each year so the large numbers were not surprising. Approximately 60 new members plus some Proposers and Seconders mingled happily with regular Friday nighters do ensure the Cocktail Party went off with great gusto.
Our Vice Commodore, Leon Wilson warmly welcomed the group with a witty and inclusive speech. Leon was followed by Rear Commodore Membership, Robert Alpe who thanked attending new members, past Flag Officers, past and current Club Directors and Club Management and staff in the Edinburgh room. Robert spoke of the Club Structure [Directors, Flag Officers and Staff] and promoted volunteering at the club before introducing each attending Rear Commodore who spent several minutes explaining their specific areas of responsibility.
Commodore, Allen Stormon would normally attend and officiate but had a credible leave pass … he was giving away his daughter at her wedding!
Guests stayed on enjoying the company of others while some wandered downstairs to take up their dinner reservations at Halyards. All in all, it was an enjoyable evening; great to welcome so many new members here to the club.
