Nacra 15 Open Weekend
RPAYC was the host of the Nacra 15 Open Weekend across 18/19 September. With support from past and present Olympic sailors, World Champions, Australia Sailing and RPAYC we welcomed 17 enthusiastic young sailors to trial the Nacra 15.
The Nacra 15 is the Australia Sailing pathway boat to the Nacra 17 Olympic Class. RPAYC members Sam Dalton and Alana Harrison were recently selected into the Australian National Youth Squad as part of the Nacra 15 program, and they led the way in introducing these fantastic high performance boats to a group of 12 – 19 year old sailors.
We were joined by Nacra’s Australian distributor Craig Fraser who generously drove from Brisbane to bring a second boat down to support the event. With perfect weather and fast high performance boats there were plenty of smiles all round. It was a fantastic show case for young sailors from all over NSW of not only the Nacra 15 but also the focus RPAYC is putting into youth development pathways.
A big thanks to RPAYC members Ken Dalton (Nacra 15 Class President) and John Forbes for hosting the weekend and also to John for hosting a unforgettable social evening bringing together these young sailors with Olympians past and present to give them a taste of where high performance cat sailing can lead.
