To help protect your boat and to maintain a safe marina environment, all members using Club shore power are reminded to;
- Use a marine-rated lead. Household leads are prohibited
- Plug must match the supply i.e 15A outlet/15A lead
- Ensure lead and connections are waterproof, in good condition and free from corrosion, moisture, UV or heat damage
- Keep lead out of the water, clear of pinch points and walkways and don’t coil or wrap around cleats, taps or similar
- Regularly disconnect and inspect your plug, clean the pins and test the RCD/safety switch
- Ensure your lead is tested annually (complimentary service see below)
Recent Marina Electrical Assessment
The Club recently engaged Logix Consulting, specialists in marine electrical systems and corrosion, to undertake an electrical assessment of one of our marina arms following concerns raised regarding possible electrolysis. The assessment found no problematic or damaging stray current originating from the marina power supply or electrical infrastructure.
Corrosion in the marine environment can have a number of causes, and effective protection relies on both marina infrastructure and the electrical and corrosion protection systems aboard individual boats. Members are encouraged to regularly inspect anodes and electrical systems and to have any unusual or accelerated deterioration investigated by a qualified marine electrician or specialist.
If you notice or suspect electrolysis, rapid anode deterioration or unexplained corrosion, we recommend having the boat inspected by a licensed marine electrician or specialist marine electrical consultant. Where professional testing identifies a possible issue associated with marina electrical infrastructure, please provide the findings to the Club so that we can review the matter and arrange any further investigation required. Members may also find the corrosion resources available on the Logix Group website useful. These cover topics including anode selection, different types of corrosion, cathodic protection and galvanic corrosion. Click here
Club Testing & Maintenance
The Club provides Members with most leads a complimentary annual shore power lead Test & Tag service. Leads are tested on arrival and annually thereafter.
When your Test & Tag is due the Waterfront team will attend your boat during the month it is due to complete the test, provided the lead is accessible. If we are unable to access your lead, we will contact you and ask that you drop it to the Reception for testing.
The Club also undertakes monthly RCD trip function testing and annual RCD trip time testing of the marina electrical supply.
Please report any damage, overheating, deterioration or other concerns with a Club shore power pedestal or outlet to the Waterfront team as soon as possible via waterfront@rpayc.com.au
The RPAYC Shore Power Connection Policy outlines the requirements for connecting to Club shore power and provides important guidance to help protect your boat and its electrical systems.
