The Gwen Slade Race once again brings together a strong fleet to Pittwater, continuing its long-standing tradition of encouraging women in sailing and celebrating competition within the Etchells class. The event remains a highlight of the RPAYC sailing calendar, valued as much for its camaraderie and opportunity as for the racing itself. This year’s entry features returning champions, such as Bayley Taylor, a two-time winner of the race, and David Taylor, who is also related to the Slade Family by marriage; both consider it an Honour to compete each year.
Katie Pellew commented:
“Unfortunately, I am unable to be involved this year due to a scheduled training camp weekend ahead of our upcoming New York Yacht Club International Women’s Championships. Still, I am glad that my long-time friend and sailing teammate Jessica Lundh nee Eastwell, an RPAYC sailor, will get a chance to compete in her first Gwen Slade.”
“The RPAYC Gwen Slade is about more than results; it’s about encouraging women in sailing, building friendships, and enjoying great competition on the water. The Etchells owners at the RPAYC have provided a great platform for this for decades. It’s great to see it so strong this year.”
