The Clubman of the Year Award is a little different from our other awards. It is awarded solely at the discretion of the Commodore and recognises someone whose contribution has made an outstanding difference to the life and culture of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
This year’s recipient has done exactly that.
When Greg Dunstan accepted the role of Rear Commodore Cruising two years ago, he brought tremendous energy and enthusiasm. More importantly, he brought something that lies at the heart of every great yacht club—friendship, camaraderie and fun.
Under Greg’s leadership, the Cruising Division has flourished. Members haven’t just enjoyed wonderful cruising destinations—they’ve become part of a community. Greg has transformed events like the Dicko Cup into weekends people simply don’t want to miss, adding activities such as beach volleyball, roulette and plenty of laughter along the way.
And then, of course, there’s the now infamous Rat Race. If you haven’t experienced the Rat Race yet, you really need to come to the next Dicko Cup or cruising event!
Those activities might seem light-hearted, but they represent something much more important. They have brought people together, built lasting friendships and created a culture where members genuinely look forward to the next cruise and the next opportunity to be together.
Of course, no one achieves this alone. Margaret has been an incredible supporter, as has the entire Cruising Committee. But Greg’s leadership has been the catalyst that has united the division and created a culture that reflects the very best of Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.
Greg, thank you for your commitment, your generosity and your leadership. You have strengthened our Club in ways that will be felt for many years to come.
