Race Officer’s Report – provided by Mat Butterworth
We had 21 boats registered with over 25 boats in total to join the fleet on the water for Round 2 of the ZHIK Centreboard Club Championships on Sunday 3 December.
Several ILCAs, 8 Family Pacers, 1 Opti, some SKUD18’s, a windsurfer and a Manly Junior, all set out in Little Pond to race in pleasant conditions with strong winds out of the southeast. Thankfully the early forecast of a possible storm didn’t eventuate.
In the ILCA6’s it was Colin Beashel on 2105 who won each of the races, and similar with second and third with Charlie Byford on Chocolate Factory finishing second and Jenny Danks on SPEC in third.
In the ILCA 7’s, it was Jan Scholten on the Left lane who won races 1 and 3, and Chris Dawson on Seedy winning Race 2.
In the Family Pacers it was great to have 8 starters. The conditions were a little tricky as the wind picked up throughout the afternoon. It was Murray and Finn who were the most consistent across the 3 races, winning race 1 and finishing second in both races 2 and 3. Congratulations to Nick and Jack who had a slow start in race 1, but managed to win races 2 and 3. It was a great effort from Katie and Chloe who placed in 2 of the 3 races. Well done to all competitors in this division, we look forward to seeing you all in Round 3 of the Club Championships!
In the Mixed Medium Handicap in the Skud 18’s, congratulations to Brett Stevenson on Callala and Martin Cross on the Windsurfer. It was Linda Buchan on Jim Brown who finished third in all three races.
We also had the presentation of the ZHIK Spring Series winners. Congratulations to all winners and competitors throughout 2023 and we look forward to seeing you all back racing in 2024!
A big thanks to all our volunteers who jumped in and helped out to ensure the smooth running of the day.
