Champions Collide in Division 2 at The Pantaenius Pittwater Regatta 2026

Day 1 of The Pantaenius Pittwater Regatta 2026 and eyes will be firmly fixed on a fascinating match-up, with last year’s Division 1 champion Organised Chaos (skipper Garry Gudmunson) lining up in Division 2 alongside 2025 Division 2 overall winner Local Hero (skipper David Davies). With both boats now racing head-to-head, the stage is set for a compelling contest on the water.

We caught up with Organised Chaos skipper Garry Gudmunson ahead of the showdown and asked whether we’re about to witness an epic battle between the two.

“I think so,” Gudmunson said. “It will be good to get the two boats together. They are a similar size, so we’ve got to beat them around the track. We’re a higher-rated boat than them, and it should be good fun.”

Despite last year’s success, there have been no major changes aboard Organised Chaos.

“None at all,” Gudmunson confirmed. “A couple of new headsails, but no major changes at all. Even the same crew.”

The opportunity to race side-by-side is a rare one.
“In general, we don’t sail against each other,” he explained. “They are a Middle Harbour boat, and we are a local Royal Prince Alfred boat. Generally, we are in Division 1, and they are in Division 2.”

As to what makes Organised Chaos such a consistent threat?
“It’s a great little boat. It’s quick in all weather conditions. My rule is to sail with mates, and we’ve been sailing together for several years now. We’ve had a lot of fun. That’s what it’s all about.”

Over on Local Hero, skipper Dave Davies is equally measured heading into the regatta. After claiming Division 2 overall in 2025, his team has opted for consistency.
“No, not at all,” Davies said when asked about changes to the boat since last year.

The forecast also has his attention.
“We are very happy with anything over 10 knots. We struggled a bit in the light breeze.”

While Organised Chaos looms large as a rival, Davies isn’t underestimating the broader fleet.
“They’re all competitive,” he said, “but Wailea is one to focus on, and Justified.”

With proven champions, steady crews, and favourable breeze on the cards, Division 2 is shaping up to deliver one of the most exciting contests in the NSW ORC Championship.
