Centreboard Season Briefing & Welcome

The Centreboard Briefing & Season Welcome provided a great forum for sailors to meet and talk about plans for the upcoming sailing season. The Spring and Summer Series will see many improvements implemented to make racing with RPAYC Centreboard easier and more fun for all!

The Season format is planned as;

• Spring, Summer & Club Championships
• $100 Entry per series, club champs included
• Club Champs $50 standalone
• Free race entry for youth and full members
• Club Champs family division, $50 for charter club Pacer and includes race entry
• Simplified courses, 2 top mark, 1 bottom – be sure to read the relevant Sailing Instructions

The Divisions will be scored on scratch, to simplify race management and support volunteers undertaking scoring.

• Mixed ILCA + Finn
• Mixed Junior (Opti, MJ, F11, etc.
• Mixed Multi
• Mixed performance (WASZP, 29er)

Sailing, like many club sports, is a volunteer-run sport. Unfortunately, last season, there were several missed weekends of racing due to lack of volunteers. To support regular club racing, and in line with many Centreboard Clubs across the state, volunteering will be mandatory this season. Each participant in the Spring Series will need to volunteer for at least 1 day, and average points will be applied.

There are several roles to fill each race day, including;

  • Race Officer – requiring Race Officer training, boat licence and Alfred’s II Induction.
  • 2x Race Officer Support
  • 2x Rib Drivers – requiring rescue boat training, boat licence, rib induction
  • 2x Rib Support

Please register into the volunteering system – RPAYC Volunteer Registration

*There is Race Management training scheduled for 29 September  – please contact sailtraining@rpayc.com.au for more information

Safety is the most important part of sailing. All competitors need to complete both the sign-on and sign-off process every race day.

Sign on and off will be completed via the jotform. It only take s a minute to complete and competitors will receive a prompt via text prior to racing. There will also be an iPad or similar available for competitors to use for sign on/sign off at the Jack Gale Centre.

Race penalties will be applied where competitors fail to sign on or off.

This season is shaping up to be a great one for Centreboard with plenty of events coming up including;

  • Manly Juniors States early November
  • Manly Juniors Nationals, Late December
  • HANSA Worlds, Late March 2025 (100+ volunteers needed)
  • BYRA Adventure Sails – monthly
  • Sunday Sessions – great menu, good vibes, tunes and friends (post-racing every Centreboard Sunday at the club)
