It was great to have our monthly Friday Veterans Sailing Day’s underway again post the covid restrictions ease that has seen many of the community groups the club works with unable to participate.
We had 10 veterans attend the day with fantastic support from our the club’s volunteers and food & beverage staff as always.
The weather was hot and the wind light and we still managed to achieve four E7s out sailing, two races for sheep stations and to fly a couple of kites along the way.
A great day had by all.
An interesting development, RPAYC is participating in the Veterans Sports Australia National Veterans Sailing forum (in which approximately 10 clubs and organisations along with Australian Sailing are participating in) that is focusing on developing a strong network between the clubs /organisations to foster veterans sailing opportunities, national level funding and progressing the concept of an rolling-out an Australian Sailing Veterans Sailing Pathway similar in design to SheSails.
In no small part, RPAYC’s long, established commitment to Veteran Sailing has earned the club the credibility as being “at the forefront of Veteran’s Sailing Programs in Australia”, Quote: Michael Hartung (CEO VSA).
