The Royal Sydney Yacht Squadron capped the entries for Round 3 of the DF65 Traveller’s Trophy Series on 02/08/2026 at thirty competitors, and RPAYC was well represented by seven pretty competitive sailors.
There was also a handful of sailors from Pittwater’s Weekend Warriors.
Conditions were ideal for the start of racing with a light NW breeze lining up perfectly for a windward-leeward course in the boat pond, and four races were completed before the lunch break. However, it became a regatta in two parts because after lunch a NE breeze kicked in and the course area had to be moved to the channel outside the boat pond.
A few of us banked some good results in the morning session but didn’t adjust well to the windier, choppy conditions after lunch, while others had their best results in the afternoon session.
Garrett Pike (RPAYC) was the one sailor who remained consistent across all eight races to finish the day in first place. Dave Burke, Warwick Crossman and Simon Grosser each won two races during the course of the day but lacked the consistency for a podium finish.
RPAYC’s results;
- 1st Gareth Pike
- 5th Greig Ebeling
- 8th Dave Burke
- 9th Warwick Crossman
- 13th Rod Waterhouse
- 15th Simon Grosser
- 22nd Steve Merrington
A special mention should go to one of RPAYC’s strongest sailors, Phil Burgess, who gave up his day of racing to assist the RO with the fleet allocations, ensuring the regatta ran smoothly. Finally, thank you to RSYS for a well-run regatta, for making us all feel very welcome there and for a great lunch and presentation to wrap up the day.
