Last weekend saw this year’s edition of the interclub challenge at Pittwater.
The event is designed as an opportunity for junior keelboat sailors from RSYS, CYCA, NCYC and RPAYC to come together for some friendly fleet racing on each club’s fleet for Elliott 6s/7s.
The wind was exceptionally fickle with the course requiring to be re-laid after every race, and multiple ‘upwind’ legs seeing spinnakers used. Safe to say it was a game of snakes and ladders for the sailors and a huge credit to the race committee led by Ted Anderson that we could even complete a series. Thank you to club volunteers who ran the racing for providing this valuable learning opportunity for the sailors.
This round of the event was won by the experienced crew led by Massimo from the RSYS. The rest of the podium was rounded out by the two CYCA teams led by Max and Kieran.
Our teams placed fourth (Will, Lavinia, Ash, Summer and Jayden) and seventh (Aaveer, Jack, Fife, Alana and Lily), both of which were sailing in new combinations and were for the most-part racing for the first time in Elliott 7s.
The next two rounds of the interclub will be hosted by RSYS and CYCA. The final event in the 2025 IYD programme is the club’s Mick Hole sportsboat regatta, where we are hopeful that we can get all teams out on the water.
