The 2025 Hansa World Championships at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club will be remembered as a truly landmark event — not only for the scale of the competition but for the spirit it brought to our Club and to Pittwater. With 195 sailors from 17 different countries, over 80 dedicated volunteers, and 30 international and Australian race officials, it was a powerful demonstration of what can be achieved when a club, a community, and a class all pull together. These championships didn’t just celebrate sailing — they celebrated access, respect, and the idea that everyone should have the chance to feel the freedom of being on the water.
The Opening Ceremony, honoured by the presence of Her Excellency the Honourable Margaret Beazley AC KC, Governor of New South Wales, set a tone of dignity, pride and welcome. Standing beneath the flags of 17 nations on our Club lawn, there was a shared sense that something special was beginning — an event not only of global significance but also deeply personal for every sailor, volunteer, and supporter involved. The international flavour of the regatta was reflected in the friendship ashore and the competitive spirit on the racecourse, with sailors at all levels giving their all in conditions that challenged and inspired.
Throughout the week, we saw what the Hansa class is all about — creating real, meaningful opportunities for people of all abilities to experience the joy and challenge of sailing on equal terms. Whether it was Paralympic gold medallists like Dan Fitzgibbons or first-time international competitors, every sailor raced with purpose and pride. But perhaps more telling were the moments off the water: boats being launched side by side, stories shared under the marquee, and friendships forged that will last long after sails have been packed away.
For RPAYC, this championship was more than just an event — it was an affirmation of who we are and what we stand for. Excellence in Sailing isn’t just a motto — it was lived every day during the Worlds. We thank every sailor who travelled to Pittwater, every volunteer who gave their time and energy, and every official who helped make it all happen. Together, we showed the world what equal opportunity in sailing really looks like — and we couldn’t be prouder.
