Media Release: IDP and Hansa World & International Championships 2025

The Hansa World and International Championships are three months away from commencing in Australia with 170 competitors expected. Leading into the Championships will be the World Sailing Inclusive Development Program.
The Inclusive Development Program (IDP), launched by World Sailing, is a transformative initiative designed to foster inclusion and sustainable growth within the sport of sailing. By offering comprehensive support for sailors and coaches of all abilities, it breaks down barriers to participation and creates equal opportunities globally. The IDP, structured into three levels—Foundation (IDP-F), Coaching (IDP-C), and Performance (IDP-P)—addresses grassroots development, skill enhancement for coaches, and pathways for competitive sailors, ensuring accessibility and growth at every stage

The IDP, held from March 19–22, will serve as a precursor to the 2025 Hansa World and International Championships which incorporate a number of Para Sailing World and International Championships. The IDP and Championships will welcome athletes from Oceania and South-East Asia alongside participants from other regions, encouraging emerging nations to engage with Para Inclusive sailing. This focus aims to promote regional participation and provide these nations with access to world-class training and coaching resources. World Sailing will issue a registration for Expression of Interest to all competitors in the 2025 World Championships.
World Sailing’s partnership with the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) for this event emphasises inclusion through access to experienced inclusive coaches, support with athlete classification, and anti-doping education.

Hannah Stodel, Para World Sailing Manager, highlighted the program’s importance:
“I am delighted that the RPAYC has partnered with World Sailing to deliver the Inclusive Development program ahead of the Para One-person non-technical World Championships in the Hansa class. The IDP is the cornerstone of the new World Sailing Para Inclusive Strategy and focuses on the accessibility of training, coaching, and events for sailors around the world. In this case, participants will have access to some of World Sailing’s top inclusive coaches, as well as receive other support such as classification and anti-doping, aiming to remove barriers to participation and encourage emerging nations to try para-inclusive sailing and join this ever-growing community.”
The IDP’s integration into the Hansa Worlds 2025 highlights its role in leaving a lasting impact. By prioritising the development of sustainable training programs within participating nations, the program builds capacity for long-term growth in inclusive sailing, ensuring more people from diverse regions can access and thrive in the sport.
