Peter Loft Marathon Race 2024

The Gods, really did shine on BYRA on Sunday.
What a wonderful event and weather for a record attendance of 92 boats!
With a pretty dismal forecast of heavy rain all day and light winds, prospects of anyone turning up,
let alone sailing the full distance looked pretty slim, then the rain cleared… not a drop all day. After a light start, there was plenty of breeze on the way home – pretty much perfect conditions.

Angus Musgrove lead around the island in his Viper, sailing single handed, shortly followed by a B14 and Wetta with many other cats following. Perhaps the most notable performance was from the 13’skiffs who performed really well and eventually won on handicap over the 30km course!

Results

Navigating yardsticks has proven to be the biggest challenge of the regatta; possibly even more epic than the rounding of Lion Island!

The story goes like this… all yardsticks were originally submitted by the participants. These were used on the day to calculate placings. These are shown below, and we continue to applaud these competitors.

Race Day Prizegiving for Div 1:

  1. Heath Walters, If Only – Windsurfer LT
  2. Tom Squires, LetsGo3000 – Windfoil/IQFoil
  3. Lachlan Jansen, Buck & Simpe – 13ft Skiff

Following feedback and reflection, we have reassessed all yardsticks against what will, from hereon, be known as ‘the BYRA yardstick!’. We believe these more accurately reflect those craft for which there is no AS yardstick. We’ve also ‘ahem’ amended some entrants’ overly optimistic declarations plus made general corrections.

These final results – which include ‘the also winners’ for Div 1 – are shown below.

  1. Richard Reynolds, The Nude – B14
  2. Lachlan Jansen, Buck & Simpe – 13ft Skiff
  3. Tayla Lees, The Kitchenmaker – 13ft Skiff

Well done!  Div 2 placings remain unchanged.

Scratch placings are also shown.

The fastest boat on Pittwater was Grant Pellew in a Viper 16! Congrats Grant Pellew!
