Welcome to DF65 RC Racing
What is a Dragon Force 65
Welcome to a fun, affordable and competitive form of racing at the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club that is available to all ages and skill levels.
The DF65 is a one design radio control yacht, governed by an International Association which guarantees the integrity and spirit of the class rules, and ensures a level playing field and enjoyable competition for everyone.
As the name suggests DF65s are 65cm in length and only weigh 1.2kgs, so they easily fit into any small car. The hulls are beautifully moulded in plastic to keep the costs down, while the spars are made of carbon fibre and the sails are cut from mylar film. More importantly the DF65s sail exceptionally well and have proven to be very reliable across a wide range of conditions.
Whether you are completely new to sailing and are looking to develop some foundation sailing knowledge, or an accomplished sailor looking for another opportunity to hone your strategies and tactics, the DF65s might be for you.
RPAYC’s DF65 fleet is easily the fastest growing and largest class on Pittwater At the club level the emphasis is very much on being inclusive and having fun, and there are plenty of experienced sailors who are more than happy to help new boat owners set up and tune their boats.
Beyond our own club there are opportunities for sailors to test themselves at Regional, State, National and International events. A national team is selected to represent Australia at the DF65 World Championships held every second year. Typically, that team includes sailors who have won World Championships in dinghies or yachts. In 2024, three members of the Australian team had previously won a World Championships, and two RPAYC members were selected to compete as part of that team in Sweden.
Weekly Racing at RPAYC is held on Thursdays.
Members and guests race at the Club or Rowland Reserve Bayview (depending on wind direction) every Thursday at 10.00am, with the majority of the sailors meeting in the Club for a coffee and chat from 9.00am.
Halyards Bistro is open after sailing around midday for lunch and a bit of friendly post-race banter.
