It was a strong turnout today with a solid 30 Centreboard boats on Pittwater. The course was set in NE with breeze of 10-12 knts providing a good challenge for our competitors.
A big warm welcome to Jack Dent, joining the Centreboard Racing today for the first time from our Green Fleet Program. We are all excited to race with you Jack, and well done for your progress through Green Fleet! Despite the overwhelming conditions Jack commented that he was keen to come back for racing next week.
Race 1 saw exciting finishes including 5 boats crossing the line within 2 seconds of each other.
Our volunteers in the Race Management Team again delivered a top notch race experience for competitors.
Our RPAYC Waszp fleet was well represented at the NSW Waszp and Wing Foil Slalom Championships at Sand Point, Palm Beach with 9 of our sailors competing and doing us proud.
Lots of interesting things happening in Centreboard with opportunities for sailors to get involved across a number of different areas of the club including learning about the Race Management side of race day in the upcoming FINN and Harken Match Racing events. Both are premier events and the experience gained from contributing backstage will be second to none. If you are interested in volunteering for one of these events please contact me or the sailing office directly.
Club championships Round 3 and Optimists GP Round 3 are scheduled for next week. Exciting times as we watch the Opti fleet grow bigger each round. Be sure to get your entries in if you haven’t already – it’s a great opportunity to acclimatise to bigger start groups and the shifty conditions on Pittwater.
