Centreboard Spring Series Round 5 - Race Day Update

Another great turnout for racing on Sunday with a fleet of 40 boats representing our Centreboard community out on Pittwater.

The course was laid in the Bigpond with a shifty 10knot breeze from the East. With many of the Opti’s away in Canberra, it was up to the smaller-than-regular Opti fleet to represent their class, leading the first race away at 1.33pm.

There were also plenty of multihulls and a great turn out of SKUDS. On water we saw some fantastic close mark rounding’s and very tight finishes from all classes with just millimeters difference between some boats.

The shifty, gusty winds on Pittwater claimed #2237 resulting in RET from a ‘kiss’ from the boom in Race 1. The sailors were able to sail past the start boat so the RO could check everyone was ok and they were able to make their own way back to base safely escorted by one of our RPAYC support Rib’s.

A big thank you to our series sponsors Vaikobi, for providing the sleek, long sleeve rash vests for all competitors. The Race Committee handed out the Vaikobi rashies after racing concluded for the day, back at Halyards. If you missed out on your Vaikobi rash vest please drop into the clubhouse to collect your 2022-23 Season Sailing Team rashy.

Vaikobi have also provided a bounty of sunglasses, hats, visors, buffs and waterproof mobile phone pouches that will be handed out at after-race presentations over the coming weeks of the Spring/Summer Series. Be sure to join us at the Presentation back in the Club House as you might be a lucky chosen competitor to receive one of these great pieces of kit!

We wish our 29er sailors, who are on the home stretch with their exams, the best and look forward to welcoming them back to the current competition.

A huge thank-you to our amazing volunteers who helped out this week and every week. Racing can’t go ahead without these wonderful people giving up their time so that we can go racing and their dedication is very much appreciated.
