From the Managers Desk

Following Brett McMullen’s Boatyard report we continue to work on improvements in regards to safety, quality of work, maintenance of the Travelift and meeting EPA requirements .

I would like to thank Clayton McLellan, RPAYC member, for the professional assistance he has provided the Club in relation to the Travelift. The hydraulic motor and the brake on each winch were tested and separately supported the test weight on their own, so there is redundancy in load holding (see image 1). The tests also provided information on the wear of each motor and from this a scope of works has been produced for the renovation of the Travelift.

Best practices have been put in place for the water blasting and sanding of hulls. Dry sanding is being conducted with power sanders connected to a vacuum (see image 2). Less wet sanding has reduced the amount of dross on the hardstand and in the drainage system. The Club is also working with Integra Water Treatment Solutions on the upgrade of our water treatment plant and drainage systems which are also required to ensure we meet the EPA’s ‘First Flush’ water quality standards.

The poor weather, staffing shortages and additional yard cleaning requirements has meant that Boatyard bookings were pushed back to the end of the year. We thank members for their understanding with this rescheduling and note that one of our KPI’s moving forward is to meet our scheduled bookings on time.

Finally I would like to welcome all members to the 2022 Opening Day on Saturday 3rd September. Free Bacon & Egg rolls are available for those who come down between 9.30 – 10.30am for the morning’s formalities. From 1.30pm the afternoon’s festivities include live music with special subsidised pricing of food & beverages to make it an extremely affordable and fun afternoon. All we need now is some good weather!
