With 120 Entrants set for the NSW Championship on Pittwater Lake Macquarie

The Toronto Sailing Club played host to the 2025 NSW Optimist Class State Championships over the weekend. RPAYC was well represented across the Green-Intermediate and Open Fleets.
It was a weekend of perfect weather for the NSW Optimist Class State Championship, hosted by Toronto Amateur Sailing Club.
Unpredictably shifty light winds greeted the sailors for the first two races on the Saturday but for heat 3 the the wind steadied from the south at 10 to 12 knots allowing the young sailors to get their feet in their straps and show off their technique. With a dubious forecast for the Sunday the race committee decided to run a 4th race while the glorious sailing conditions prevailed. At the end of day 1, Walter Healy had showed great consistency to lead from Reid Martin, who had joined our coaching group from North Queensland. RPAYC sailor Jayden Wang and Astrid Nixey finished 1st and 2nd in the 4th heat keeping them in touch with the leaders, and Zach Tait was not far from the podium, in the top 7.
Sunday, with only two heats to be sailed, delivered a patchy North Westerly. Tight racing was had with advantages from both sides of the first beat. Walter and Reid continued with their low scores securing 1st and 2nd (1st U12yrs for Reid) respectfully and Jayden’s 9/3 scores was enough to grab the last podium spot in 3rd. Zach held on to his 7th (1st U11yrs), Astrid finished up 8th (1st Female) and Aaveer Patil-Chaudhari 12th.
Our 7 Intermediate fleet sailors where supported by our home grown YD star and coach, Belle Holdsworth. “They handled the tricky conditions really well” said Belle. “Lucas finished up 9th, while he, Gary and Jiacheng all had races they finished inside the top ten! It was a fantastic weekend for the RPAYC Sailors and families.”
