2023 Musto Optimist Class Australian Championship

The 2023 MUSTO Optimist Australian Championship is underway with Monday seeing the Teams racing event take place. 16 Teams (4-5 boats per team) and 32 races were held. The conditions on Pittwater were idyllic and favored the Victorians taking 1st place.
Special guests Tash Bryant and Jason Waterhouse were on hand to present the awards to the teams after giving a great Q&A with competitors and signing autographs before the SailGPAUS Team compete in Singapore this weekend.  

Day 1 of the Championship, Tuesday, has seen 200 Optimists on water supported by coaches, race mgt teams and spectators. Pittwater was full of activity with a SSE 15knt breeze set in for the day. With the large numbers in the Open Fleet they were split into two groups to form qualifying series, completing 3 races and Intermedia Fleet 2 races.

Green Fleet were amazing, battling the conditions in the ‘small pond’ with grit and determination and a lot of bailing.
Racing continues all week with the final awards presented on Saturday afternoon/evening.
