10 Minutes with Ray Hudson - Line Honors Winner Pittwater to Coffs Race 2024

CONGRATULATIONS!
XS Moment Line Honours Winner 2024 Pittwater to Coffs Yacht Race

Well on Friday 22 March, 28 yachts set off on the 226 nautical mile CAT 3 race from Pittwater to Coffs – just three finished.

We are proud to report that XS Moment (an Xp 44) took Line Honours in Ray Hudson, the Owner/Skipper proudest moments in his illustrious sailing career.

The 2024 race was sailed in very light conditions with only three yachts finishing the race in a star-studded fleet. At one stage XS Moment was leading on IRC, ORCi, and Line Honours – but just got pipped in the former two categories.

Skipper/Owner, Ray Hudson was ecstatic with the win on his X-Yacht that is now 13 years old.

Owner: Ray Hudson
X-Yacht: XS Moment Xp 44

How long have you owned XS Moment?
I bought her new in 2011 – I have been to the yard in Haderslev several times and we raced XS Moment in the UK before she came home to Australia.

What have you done with XS Moment?
Well it’s more like what haven’t we done! Four-Rolex Sydney to Hobart, 2 x Hamilton Island Race Weeks, 10 x Pittwater to Coffs, every year RPAYC/CYC Blue Water Series and I think 9 x Sydney to Gold Coast and still going!

What’s your most memorable moment on XS Moment?
Tough question! There are two;
• Line Honors in this year’s Pittwater to Coffs – made me smile… A LOT!
• Sailing in the Rolex Sydney to Hobart this year in front of Tasman Island and having 54 knots across the deck… She is a tough little yacht!

Any Future Plans?
We’re off to Hobart on 26 December this year… and everything in between!

My Crew……
I am lucky enough to have a core of committed crew that enjoy racing and are continually trying to improve in an X-Yacht that remains very competitive.

What would say to someone looking to buy an X-Yacht?
X-Yachts designs and makes a high-quality, safe and competitive yacht. It’s a reliable brand I trust.
