The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) is thrilled to announce the upcoming Mick Hole Winter Regatta, set to take place from July 10 to July 21, 2024. This eagerly anticipated event will bring together over 30 entrants and around 200 sailors, promising a spectacular display of competitive sailing on the pristine waters of Pittwater.
The regatta will feature a variety of racing classes, ensuring a dynamic and engaging competition for both participants and spectators. Highlights include:
- Etchells Fleet: Utilising the state-of-the-art Vakaros Race Management System, the Etchells Fleet is set for a highly competitive series of races. This system ensures precise race management and fair competition, adding to the excitement on the water.
- VXOnes: Sailors will use this regatta as a prelude to their State Championships on Pittwater. The VXOne class is known for its high-performance sailing, and this event will be no exception, showcasing skillful and exhilarating racing.
- Sportboats & Club Elliott 7s: Featuring teams from the Intermediate Youth Development (IYD) and Youth Development (YD) squad participants with a team from Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club participating, the Club Elliott 7s races will highlight the talents of up-and-coming sailors. These young competitors will demonstrate their prowess and passion for the sport, promising thrilling matches. Putting the pressure on these youth teams will be a mix of Sportboats.
- Mixed Fleet of ORC Rated Yachts: The regatta will also see a diverse range of ORC rated yachts competing. This mixed fleet will offer a fascinating variety of racing styles and strategies over the windward / leeward course, adding to the overall excitement of the event.
The Regatta is held in Memory of Mick Hole.
Mick Hole was the epitome of RPAYC club spirit, until he sadly passed away too soon at the age of 48, on May 19th 2011.
Mick was a feisty character, but known for the biggest of smiles and a happy outlook on life. He bravely fought a tough battle right to the end, without complaint. Typical of Mick, he was in it for the fun and the camaraderie, and no matter where he was placed in the fleet (often upside down !) remained as competitive as ever, and always came up smiling.
With such a diverse array of classes and competitors, the Mick Hole Winter Regatta is set to be a memorable event, drawing sailing enthusiasts from near and far. RPAYC invites the community to come and witness the thrilling races and enjoy the festive atmosphere on Pittwater.
