Mat Butterworth – Race Officer
We had over 25 boats in total joining the fleet on water, in the wet conditions for Round 1 of the ZHIK Centreboard Club Championships on Sunday 5 November.
Competitors received their awesome season racing packs from series sponsors ZHIK which included a stylish RPAYC Centreboard Racing bib. If you are entered in racing but have not received your pack, there will be more packs available at Non-Pointscore and during the Summer Series.
Quite a number of ILCAs, a handful of WASZPs, a couple of Pacers ,a Viper, SKUD18’s and a Manly Junior all set out in Little Pond to race with 10 – 12 knots out of the southeast.
In the ILCA6’s it was Colin Beashel on 210 who won races 1 and 3, with Steve Bryant on Ethel winning race 2. Lyndall Patterson on Spindle was consistent, placing 2nd in two of the races and 3rd in the other.
In the ILCA 7’s, it was Chris Dawson on Seedy winning the first two races and Jan Scholten on The Left Lane.
In the WASZP’s, it was Will Troop on No Limits winning the first race and Jervis Tilly winning the second. Will was too strong in the 3rd race to take out the day.
In the Skud 18’s it was Linda Buchan on Jim Brown winning the first race with Greg Jacobs on Liros/ The Shark winning races 2 and 3.
In the Pacers, it was Dad and daughter team of Andrew and Lucie who won all 3 races in the Family Division. If you are keen to join in the family Division you can lease a club Pacer and join for Round 2 of the Club Championships which is scheduled 3 December.
It was great to see all of the competitors who made their way back to the clubhouse enjoying the complimentary BBQ and casual presentation.
Finally, again a big thanks to all our volunteers who jumped in and helped out for the first round of the Club Championships! We have all of the racing events set up in Volnet – right through to 4 February, so if you are available, please register in the system so we can ensure we have coverage for all of our upcoming Centreboard Race events.
