It certainly was wet for the final race day in our Centreboard 2022-23 Club Championships. Our fleet was small yet dedicated, and with a call to hold on-shore until visibility improved, sailors continued to rig and prepare themselves to head out for what was always going to be a challenging (but fun) sail.
The Race Committee start boat set off in search of a course, and through the bucketing rain, found one just off Quays Marina in Little Pond. The wind was 10knt SSE when we started and 4knt ESE when the first race finished! Racing was cut short by the drop in breeze as Pittwater did it’s shifty thing and Optis bailed through their 2nd race with racing ABN for all other classes.
The Driftwood race was also ABN due to the unrelenting rains that continued throughout the afternoon. It will be back next year though!
A return to the clubhouse saw some settle in to watch the F1 on the screens in Halyards and a small social gathering.
That concludes racing for the 2022-23 Season for Centreboard – presentation day will be 6 May (TBC) – more details to follow.
Focus now shifts to the ice breaker and preparations are well underway. We hope to see you all at the winter series – NoR to be released shortly.
