Anticipation Builds for Tomorrow’s Charity Race at Pittwater.

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) is buzzing with excitement as the community rallies in support of the Port to Palmy Hansa 303 Charity Race. Proceedings are scheduled to start tomorrow at 1100hrs, the 3.8-nautical-mile race will feature an impressive lineup of teams, including Olympic gold medallist Malcolm Page and RPAYC Commodore Robert McClelland.

Race Lineup:

  • Team First Picasso – Helm: Robert McClelland (RPAYC Commodore)
  • Team Bacon – Helm: John Bacon
  • Team Condor – Helm: Gerard Smith
  • Team 11m Class Challenge – Helm: Winner of Wednesday Spring Series – John Smidmore Ultimate Tune

The day will commence at 1100hrs with a pre-race briefing at the RPAYC Club House, after which teams will launch their Hansa 303 boats for a short practice sail on Pittwater. For many of these seasoned sailors, this will be their first time racing in a Hansa 303, single-handed, adding an extra layer of challenge and excitement.

Once the starting cannon fires at 1225hrs, the race will begin, with all eyes on the fleet as they navigate the scenic 3.8-nautical-mile course to the Palm Beach Pile. This charity event showcases not only competitive sailing but also the strong community spirit of RPAYC and its supporters.
Support teams are encouraged to join their racers on the water, cheering them on as they tackle the scenic course or greeting them at Sandy Bay Beach for the post-race celebration. A special thank you goes out to all participating teams for their dedication and support, which benefits the Alfred’s Community Sailing Program and helps prepare for the Hansa World and International Championships coming to Pittwater in 2025.

Let’s come together to cheer on these teams and support a great cause!
