Time Bandits Crew Wins on Water and Ashore in CUPRA Wednesday Series

Past Commodores Russell Murphy and Michael Lockley enjoyed a memorable afternoon on Pittwater, claiming first place aboard Time Bandits in this week’s CUPRA Wednesday Series before winning the coveted CUPRA Leon Weekend draw at the post-race presentation.

Presenting the keys to the pair, Commodore Julia Hornsby congratulated the crew on a day that delivered success both on and off the water. Murphy described the result as “a race that just kept on giving”.

“We had a great race in beautiful conditions,” he said. “We got away to a strong start and managed to hold off some fast-finishing competition. Michael, Gene Clewett, Andrew Herriott and I sailed well as a team, and it was a very satisfying result.”

The celebrations continued at the presentation when Time Bandits was drawn as the winner of the CUPRA Leon Weekend experience. “To cap it all off, our name was drawn to use the CUPRA Leon this weekend,” Murphy said. “Our thanks go to CUPRA for their generous sponsorship and the opportunity to experience the Leon. Michael and I will have to negotiate later about who gets behind the wheel first.”

Murphy also thanked RPAYC for delivering another successful day of racing.

“Pittwater turned on a terrific afternoon, and the Club once again hosted a fantastic day’s yacht racing,” he said. “We’re grateful to everyone involved in making the Wednesday Series such an enjoyable competition
