Zhik Centreboard Spring Round 3 Report - Club Champs coming up!

Zhik Centreboard Spring Series – Round 3 – 27 October

There was a good-sized fleet for Round 3 of the Zhik Centreboard Spring Series consisting of 5 Multis, 8 from the Junior Mixed Fleet and 4 ILCAs.

Nick Elliott and Niall Powers teamed up for the first time on Slider and managed to take out first place with a 3,1,2 in the Multihull Division. Jack Dent in Kizma was first in the Junior Mixed Fleet and Stuart Holdsworth took the ILCA win with a picket fence 1,1,1.

Sunday 3 November will bring the first in our Zhik Club Championship Series and with 36 entries already lined up, it looks to be setting up for a great series! The fleet will be joined on Sunday by some highly skilled visiting Opti Sailors who will be on day two of an intensive training camp.
Our Head Coach, Rob Brewer will be hitting the water on Saturday and Sunday, prepping the visiting Opti sailors before they head into competition on international waters. Rob is coaching 10 Opti sailors who are visiting RPAYC from across Australia, including as far as Perth – one group of 5 sailors are off to compete in the upcoming World Championship, and the other 5 heading to the Asian Championship.

Heading offshore on Saturday, a rolling tide and the forecast winds will provide challenging condition for the sailors to train amongst, in the lead up to their international competition. This will be a great opportunity for our RPAYC Junior Fleet sailors to see, first-hand what can be achieved and where their own sailing could take them. It will also be a great opportunity for RPAYC parents to network with other Opti parents, who may be able to share some of their own experience and insights into being an Opti parent.

Halyards will once again be offering extended trading post-racing with snacks, a kids menu and the bar open until 6pm.

Up for grabs are also some great prizes from our series partner Zhik – so come along to Club Champs, sail with our regular Centreboard fleet and the visiting Optis and then stay to enjoy a post-racing debrief and a feed in Halyard’s.
