Meet the Staff – Week 7

We continue to take this opportunity to introduce the staff on the ground here at the club. This week we are featuring some of our Instructors who assist with our Sail Training with the Schools, Tackers, Holiday Programs & Adult Learn to Sail Programs.  They are super excited to be able to welcome back all of our budding sailors!!

Name: Cam Whiteside
Years Instructing at RPAYC: 7 years (Dinghy Instructor)
Favourite part of instructing at RPAYC: My favourite part of instructing at the club is being able to help inspire the next wave and generation of youth sailors, passing on my knowledge and experience that I’ve learnt over many years of sailing and racing. The other instructors are great to work with and we always manage to have a good laugh whilst still making sure the kids are learning and having a great time too. Pittwater is also gods country so there’s not much to complain about the scenery !!! My boss is also pretty nice too (Niall).
Interests: My interests include competitive Virtual Regatta racing, still not knowing how to ‘run the tapes’ on a spinnaker, starting a race on port tack, golf, and a good 35 knot southerly send!

Name: D’Arcy Kemp
Years Instructing: 1 year & 1 month (Keelboat Instructor)
Favourite Part of Instructing at RPAYC: I enjoy it all, but for me it’s a combination of both the work and co-workers. I feel fortunate to be able to welcome so many new people to our sport whilst spending time out on the water. Additionally, our instructing team are great to be around and are a terrific group to work with. As far as I am concerned, it is the best job going while I am studying at University!
Interests: Sailing (unsurprisingly). In particular, I enjoy the intensity of match racing as part of Youth Development as well as offshore racing, where I am able to test my grit and endurance. I am also a keen skier in the seasons I can get to the snow.

Name: Alistair Read
Years instructing: 4 years at RPAYC (Dinghy Instructor)
Favourite part of instructing at RPAYC: Working with some of my best mates to help children develop a lifelong passion for sailing! It is a really interesting place to work where every day of coaching is different which keeps it really interesting. I also enjoy opportunity to have a succulent Alfie’s burger and lemonade after a big day on the water!
Interests: Competitive sailing, camping, beating Cam and Niall at Par 3 golf, pretending to ‘run the spinnaker tapes’, and calling starboard while on port.
