HARKEN MATCH RACING ATTRACTS TOP YOUTH TO PITTWATER

Newport's Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club will again welcome top international youth sailors to its doors for the 22nd HARKEN International Youth Match Racing Championship to be sailed on Pittwater commencing with Round Robin racing starting Wednesday 19 through to Sunday 23 November.

The Club's brand new fleet of 8 Elliot 7m keelboats will be used throughout the regatta. The yachts are identical and rotated during the event placing the focus squarely on skipper and crew. Dependant on weight limits, each boat will have between 4 and 5 sailors. This year’s field of 13 skippers (U21) includes 5 international teams and 3 female skippers.

New kid on the block for Blackmores MC38 Pittwater regatta

A noticeable three year absence from competitive sailing will come to an end for fast car and boat aficionado Neville Crichton when he debuts with his new MC38 at the Blackmores 2014 MC38 Open regatta the weekend of November 28 – 30, 2014.Credit: Andrea FrancoliniCredit: Andrea Francolini

Hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club at Newport on Sydney’s northern beaches, the Blackmores sponsored one design event is the penultimate for the Australian MC38 Association’s 2014 season.

Black beauty’s New Year dash to Coffs

Australia’s most well-travelled multihull, Shaun Carroll’s black beauty called Morticia, is one of the starters for January’s Club Marine Pittwater to Coffs Yacht Race. Off the back of a busy 18 month Australian circuit the trimaran has just completed New Zealand’s Coastal Classic; a race skipper Chris Williams affectionately calls a “drag strip derby”.

Carroll and Williams have spent the last two years cutting down sail area on the Sea Cart 30 so it better suits the Australian adopted Offshore Multihull Rule. For the arbitrarily handicapped Coastal Classic from Auckland to Russell along the North Island’s eastern fringe, the plan cost them.

Pusser's Rum Melges Championships

The Pusser’s Rum Melges East Coast Championships was held over the weekend of the 8/9th November 2014, hosted by the Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club.  This is the sixth Melges East Coast Championships to be hosted by the club, a permanent fixture in both the Melges 24 and Melges 32 annual regatta schedule. Pusser’s Rum have been watching the growth and culture of the fleets in Australia and have extended their international Melges sponsorship to the Australian classes providing their Blue Label British Navy Rum and Nelsons Blood hip flasks as prizes.

IdS Weekend a Huge Success

The Link Healthcare Islands Weekend in aid of the RPAYC Integrated disAbled Sailing fund was a huge success. It featured great sailing, excellent food and drink, wonderful live music and best of all raised $40,000 for a tremendous cause.

Saturday night kicked off the weekend with the RPAYC Gala Dinner, the club’s signature social event of the year.
