Tales from RPAYC Cruising - Mooloolaba Rendezvous

Five boats gathered for the Mooloolaba Rendezvous on the RPAYC Pittwater to Dunk Island Cruise on Thursday/Friday 30/31 May . We arranged for Happy Hour aboard Mix’d Nutz where the options for the Official Rendezvous were discussed. We agreed that Breakfast at the Mooloolaba Surf Club on Friday morning would suit all. The next couple of days everyone went their own ways during the day to do last minute shopping or other boat related endeavours or just relaxing or sightseeing. David and Sonia Hosted Happy Hour on Thursday.

Bright and early on Friday Bill and Dianne Bixley from Seas The Moment, David and Sonia from Galadriel, David and Jenny Taylor from Kailani and Clem and Jim Cormack from Mix’d Nutz met to do the walk along the beachfront to the Surf Club where we were met by Stephen and Anne Hardy from Loseca and previous club Members Alan and Sue Pick.

We all enjoyed a lovely breakfast and lots of reminiscences about our trips. A final happy hour was hosted by David and Jenny aboard Kailani.

As the weather outlook and timing for the bar crossing were reviewed it was decided that a late departure on Sunday would suit all except Loseca, who still had some boat related repairs to complete. This would allow for an early morning bar crossing and entry into the Great Sandy Straits.

The crossing was successfully made by the four boats Galadriel, Kailani, Seas The Moment and Mix’d Nutz, the group then split up and headed off on their own adventures.

We heard about the challenges being experienced by boats heading up the coast and hope to catch up at a later rendezvous to hear their stories in greater detail.
