Update from the General Manager 2/04/2020

Dear Members,

With further restrictions that have been announced this week we would like to remind you that we are here to help.

Last week we sent boat owners a message offering to monitor vessels if you are unable to attend.  The response to this was very positive and our team are very happy to carry out various checks on your behalf.  If you want to take advantage of this service please let our Waterfront team know waterfront@rpayc.com.au. Regardless of if you would like to take up this offer we want to assure you that our team is keeping a close eye on member’s vessels during this time.

Our tender service continues to operate, however due to tightening restrictions we are limited to one passenger only with the skipper at a time, unless the passengers are from the same family living under the same roof. In the case of a family the tender skipper will use their discretion as to the number of passengers that can travel, so please keep tender passengers to a minimum. There is also now a requirement that the tender is sanitised between each trip, so please be patient.

The RPAYC Boatyard remains very busy and we will be keeping this facility open for as long as the government will allow. Our valued tenants continue to trade and your ongoing support would be appreciated. It is important that boats are maintained for a number of reasons, but particularly for seaworthiness at times of reduced use.

The Boatyard staff and tenants have noticed increased foot traffic in their area and ask that if you are thinking of speaking with them about work can you please use the phone where you can. We recognise that people are wanting to get out and exercise but we ask, for the safety of our Boatyard team, that you don’t use the Boatyard as a destination.

The Marina Industry Association and the Boating Industry Association are lobbying hard to both the State and Federal Government to have Marinas and Boatyards recognised as ‘essential services’ in the case that we are advised to go into full lockdown. This will allow us to continue to supervise, secure and maintain your vessels.

I remind members that we are providing take-away meals, pantry items and take-away alcohol from the Clubhouse. Details can be found in this newsletter and we hope that you will support this initiative.

Many members have asked if boating is still allowed at the moment. At the time of writing this message there is uncertainty due to contradictions between a Public Health Order that was interpreted by various agencies suggesting that any non-essential boating is banned and announcements today that suggested that some boating was allowed for the purpose of exercise providing social distancing requirements were being met. Australian Sailing is currently working to seek clarity from Maritime agencies and Governments in each State. Whilst they do, they are advising sailors to stay at home and stay safe, which means staying off the water for the time being.

As a Club and as a community I would ask that you keep in touch with each other and offer support, particularly to our more senior members. Please reach out to each other and the Club if you need a hand. As I said earlier, we are here to help.

Please look after yourself and those around you.

Kind regards,

Craig Evans
General Manager
