Work Health & Safety Act 2011

Attention all Members who Volunteer

As you may be aware, new Work Health & Safety (WHS) legislation came into force in NSW from 1 January 2012. In preparation for this new legislation, Clubs NSW delivered training to Club Board members, staff and tenants in December 2011. The presentation, titled Work Health and Safety Act 2011: Harmonisation of OH&S Laws, has been uploaded to the website (See link below). It explores how the new legislation differs from traditional Occupational Health & Safety and identifies new roles and responsibilities under the NSW Work Health & Safety Act 2011.

If you volunteer in any capacity for the Club, I ask that you familiarise yourself with the content of this presentation as this legislative change has impacted the Club’s day to day operations. Specifically, volunteers are now considered ‘workers’ under the legislation and this change brings new obligations from the Club to you and from you to the Club. It is essential that you understand these obligations in order to undertake or continue any volunteer role with the Club. If you require further information about any aspect of this legislative change please contact the WHS committee chairperson by calling 9998 3700 or ask at reception.

Management would also like to take this opportunity to thank you for making yourself available as a volunteer. The Club depends on the valuable work of its volunteers. More than 120 members work on various Committees and events and without this work our Club could not function in the way we know and enjoy. Thank you.
