Notice to Competitors Wednesday Spring Pointscore Series Race 9 5 November 2014 Weather Warning
Please be aware that the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a Strong Wind Warning for today for Sydney Closed Waters. The Race Committee and Sailing Office will monitor the weather conditions throughout the day and competitors should ensure that their VHF radio is on and tuned to channel 77. Attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4, which states - "The responsibility for a boat's decision to participate in a race or to continue racing is hers alone".
Weather Situation A high pressure system over the western Tasman Sea extends a ridge towards the New South Wales coast and is directing fresh to strong northeasterly winds over most waters as a low pressure trough moves into western New South Wales. This trough will move across to the east today, maintaining northeasterly winds ahead of a gusty southerly change which makes it to Sydney Closed waters during Wednesday evening. The southerly will then move to the northern NSW coast on Thursday as another high pressure ridge develops over the southern Tasman Sea and winds over Sydney Closed Waters turn easterly. Winds will again turn northeasterly on Friday and Saturday ahead of the next change on Sunday.
Forecast for Wednesday until midnight Strong Wind Warning for Wednesday for Sydney Closed Waters Winds: North to northeasterly 15 to 20 knots, reaching 30 knots in the afternoon, shifting southerly 25 to 30 knots in the late evening. Seas: Below 1 metre, increasing to 1 to 1.5 metres during the afternoon. Weather: Partly cloudy. 80% chance of showers. The chance of a squally thunderstorm during this afternoon and evening.
