29er Worlds Report

On the 26th of June Shaun and I flew into England to begin our first ever Europe campaign. After a few days of recovery we went and picked up the boat in Lymington and spent over 7 hours working on it, making it feel as familiar as possible. For the next few days we trained and got our heads around the boat as we competed in the Lymington town regatta.

I left for Japan on the 19th August and flew into Tokyo, Narita airport the following day. The Australian team consisted of 7 sailors, 5 boys and 2 girls, all from the east coast of Australia. Positions on the team were highly sought after and there was a selection process.

The goal for our Farr 40 worlds campaign was not result driven; it was based around the opportunity to gain invaluable experience in world-­‐class fleet. As I sat in the tactician’s briefing at 18 years old with Terry Hutchinson on my left and Vasco Viscotto on my right I realized that we had achieved this even before the start of race 1.

On Wednesday September 4, the New Zealand Sailing Team won the inaugural title from Full Metal Jacket (NZL) and the ROFF/Cascais Sailing (POR).

We have just returned from our second trip to Europe for the year. This trip was only a short one being three weeks to La Rochelle France for the 2103 World Championships. This event was also a two week celebration of the class as it was its 50th anniversary.

RPAYC offers marina course for students

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club (RPAYC) will host a Marina Attendants’ Course on Saturday 14 September 2013 for local school students interested in learning the basics of marina work. Aimed at encouraging interest in the industry, the course will also be helpful for those keen to find part or full time employment.

The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club - RPAYC is a yacht racing and sailing club based on Pittwater.

The yacht club offers year round inshore and offshore racing, cruising, centreboard dinghy racing, sail training and courses plus has a large marina accommodating up to 352 vessels.
