One of the final steps before starting to race is learning how to safely and effectively use the Spinnaker - the light colourful sail deployed whilst sailing downwind. It is the 4th component of the Australian Sailing Keelboat training course. The beauty of this course is it's flexibility to teach the use of the spinnaker to groups who have never used spinnakers before but it can also be adapted to sharpen seasoned sailors spinnaker handling and trim. Despite what some skippers might tell you, the person steering has a huge impact on the ease, effectiveness and safety in deploying, recovering and trimming the spinnaker. Lifejackets are provided, all of our instructors are fully qualified, and Pittwater is one of the best locations to learn on the East Coast. Students will be expected to have ticked off the key components in the "Start Crewing", "Start Helming" and "Start Skippering" components or have equivalent knowledge and experience.
